Schoolsworks is a multi-academy trust in West Sussex. Our aim is to create small hubs of schools which work closely together to collaborate, share best practice and improve outcomes for children.

Our teaching aims to ensure that every child is able to communicate articulately and confidently in a range of forms and situations across the curriculum.

We secure fluent and effective reading through the use of a systematic synthetic phonics programme, to enable them to access the wider curriculum, develop a rich vocabulary and enjoy reading for pleasure and as a door to further learning.

We ensure high quality texts, with an emphasis on celebrating diversity and differences, using this to model and enable children to internalise the language structures needed for effective, independent writing.

Speech and language opportunities are embedded into our daily teaching through the use of 'Talk for Writing'. A key feature in this method of structuring lessons is that children internalise the language structures needed to write through ‘talking the text’ as well as close reading. The approach moves from dependence towards independence with the teacher using shared and guided teaching to develop the ability in children to write creatively and powerfully.

The cycle of genres that we use is below. Our texts are reviewed regularly, linking to the type of genre, the focus and the reading level of the children in a  particular class. We choose books that have a reading level above every child in the class to ensure the text ensures both writing and reading skills are being targeted. To see the text that your child will be using this term see the Curriculum Maps under the Curriculum menu.
